Modern Warfare 3 Announced + Leaked Details

Surprise, surprise, Activison has announced they will be releasing the next installment of the Call of Duty series, Modern Warfare 3, later this year! And accompanying the announcement is a teaser trailer, which obviously doesn’t reveal much. What’s interesting, though, is that the teaser strongly hints that parts of this game will take place in America, or Am3rica, as Activision likes to call it.

Kotaku earlier had leaked quite a bit of information about the game. Kotaku’s sources claim that Modern Warfare 3 will be set where Modern Warfare 2 left off, and “ties up nearly all loose ends from previous [Modern Warfare] titles.” Kotaku detailed quite a bit of the storyline, including many spoilers. Modern Warfare 3 will include the final moments of key figures of the series, in addition to the arrival of characters new to the Modern Warfare series, who will probably end up being in future Modern Warfare. Two of these new characters, Delta Force operatives “Frost” and “Sandman,” seem to have particular importance. The game is set to have about 15 missions, starting with the invasion of Manhattan by a Russian force.

Kotaku’s sources also brought up a few multiplayer details. The game will have 15-20 maps, and will feature two Spec-Ops modes, Survival and Mission.

Finally, Kotaku’s sources claim that the game is set to release on November 9th of this year. Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has commented on these leaks on his Twitter, saying “A lot of hype & a lot of leaked info on #MW3, some still accurate, some not. To avoid spoiling the experience, I’d wait for the real reveal.”

Expect to hear more of Modern Warfare 3 over at E3 ’11, taking place June 6-9. Trailer after the jump.
